Education

Dr. Kiwanuka was an esteemed member of the renowned Laboratory of Gene Transfer and Tissue Repair at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. Dr. Kiwanuka's pursuit of excellence led her to obtain a Ph.D. in wound healing and tissue engineering, making her a leader in scar treatment and tissue healing. Subsequently, Dr. Kiwanuka earned a place in the esteemed plastic surgery training program at Brown University.

Surgical Training

From 2014-2015, Dr. Kiwanuka was an Intern in the Department of Surgery at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. She then pursued a Plastic Surgery Residency at the same institution from 2015-2019 and was chosen as Chief Resident for 2019-2020. Most recently, Dr. Kiwanuka underwent an elite Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship at the prestigious Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Department of Plastic Surgery in New York City.

Professional Societies

Dr. Kiwanuka is an active member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and is a resident member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American College of Surgeons. Additionally, she is a member of the Wound Healing Society and the Plastic Surgery Research Council.

Awards and Honors

Dr. Kiwanuka was awarded the ERASMUS Scholarship in 2017, followed by Boberg’s and Törnlund’s Scholarships at Uppsala University. In 2010, she received the Wound Healing Society Travel Award in Orlando, FL. Dr. Kiwanuka was honored with a Research Grant from the Sweden-America Foundation in 2012, and in 2017, she received the Dean’s Excellence In Teaching Award at Brown University as well as the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society award.
